How to play Peg Solitaire

Try Peg Solitaire at your own pace and keep its objective in view. Leave a single peg on the English cross board. Use the example below to understand a decision. Treat the first round as a chance to learn the controls. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions.

English 33-hole cross; central starting gap; any final single peg wins.

Make the controls familiar

Locate the buttons and input area before beginning a long round. Use the on-screen labels to avoid an accidental restart. Notice the feedback after each input.

Your goal

Leave a single peg on the English cross board. Keep that objective in view throughout the round. Keep the controls in easy reach.

Step by step

  1. Select a peg and an empty hole two squares away.
  2. Jump horizontally or vertically over one peg, removing it.
  3. Plan so remaining pegs can still interact.
  4. Undo repairs a deadlock.

Controls

Click or tap a piece and destination; use the turn indicator and legal-move feedback. Use the control method described here for this activity. Look at the feedback after the action.

A useful example

Peg–peg–empty in one line permits one jump. Apply the same reasoning to the position in your own round. Check the stated objective.

Watch out for this

Diagonal jumps and pulling are not allowed. Take a moment to reassess the position before continuing. Keep the stated aim separate from side details such as animation or appearance. Progress is measured by the game’s own completion or scoring rules.
